Kausani – Switzerland of India

We are here with a new location for you known as Kausani, a beautiful hill station of Uttaranchal famous as Switzerland of India. It is the best destination for backpackers and writers of dreamland located at Baghewar, Kumaon district, Uttaranchal. Basically, it is a village with less population, so crowd is not much here. This quaint hill station is surrounded with valleys and greenery. Dark green hills and crimson sun are best thing to watch here.

Kausani is best destination for panoramic view of Himalaya peaks. Trishul, Naina Ghunti and Panchakuli are main green hills of the region. Himalaya peaks are covered with white snow and because of that it become gold in the morning due to sun light and becomes orange at sunset. Best period to reach town is summer period, though Jan to April is top demanding period and maximum travellers visit the place at this duration. September to October is also a good duration for Kausani. Once you are at place you should spend at least 2 days here. The temperature is between 15 to 27 degrees in summer. As per sources Mahatma Gandhi visited this place twice in his life time. After his first visit Mr. Gandhi named this place as Switzerland of India that is because of its surrounding beauty.

 

Why to Visit Kausani?

If you look closer you will find that hills are surrounded with alpine trees and all time covered with snow. North Indian travellers are regularly visiting this place as weekend gateway. It’s easily reachable threw road, though nearby railway station also allows you to get to your place with no worries. Kausani is the idle place for photography and village walks. This peaceful place is just 132 km away from Kathgodam and Pantnagar is only 192 km. Pantnagar is having domestic airport so if you have plan to visit through flight get the plan for Pantnagar. If you are in the list of adventure lovers you can do hiking to Rudrahari cave temple.

It is a small hill station, but there are few important spots that you should not miss such as Ana Shakti Ashram, Lakshmi Ashram, Sumitra Nandan Pant Museum, etc. Few big temples like Baijnath temple, Bageshwar temple and Someshwar temple are few holy spots of the town. Few nearby tourism destinations that you can enjoy once you reach Kausani are Ranikhet, Tea Estate, Rudrahari Hills, Observatory and few valleys.

Museum is always the best place to learn history of any location. Kausani is also having museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and now this museum is famous as home turned gallery with best collection of Mahatma Gandhi visit.

Enjoy nature with morning walk to lush greenery. If possible try to reach Trishul or Nanda Ghunti to view peaks of Himalaya.

By Road: The town is linked with major cities of Northern India through road. Buses are available from almost all big cities, though frequent service is accessible from Delhi, Lucknow and some more cities. Delhi is 410 km away from our destination.

By Train: Kathgodam is the big railway station at 132 km distance.

By Air: Pantnagar is the closest domestic airport linked to almost all big cities of India.
